Kenny Rogers of Jackass fame…

Not, but really…Kenny Rogers, the musician who is as American as voting for Donald Trump while giving a bald eagle a blow job, has a popular restaurant in the Philippines. It’s called Kenny Rogers Roasters. Basically it’s the “home cooking” style Boston Market has popularized, specializing in chicken. The difference here is Kenny Rogers has put his name on it. One look at him, you can clearly tell he knows a lot about food.

There aren’t any Kenny Rogers Roasters in the US that I’ve ever seen. If I remember my research correctly it’s because we have Nathan’s Hot Dogs instead. This is interesting because they’re nothing alike other than promotion of gluttony.

Kenny Rogers Roasters has a special place in my heart as it’s where my first meal with Jenny was shared. We ate there again on our second beecation, this time on Jenny’s birthday. I’m also fairly certain I ate 3/4ths of the brownie provided with her meal. This was before getting ice cream moments later.

I’ll never understand why some restaurants work in certain parts of the world while others fail. Kenny Rogers Roasters is available in several Asian countries and does quite well. In the US I’m not so sure it could work as most of the good is too common for its own brand. In the Philippines it’s more about combining the traditional American foods then adding rice. It’s actually kind of racist like their other Americanized restaurant, Army/Navy, which implies Americans are gung-ho and love burritos. It’s actually not that far off. I mean, if Donald Trump can have a shot at becoming our supreme leader, we probably are a little nuts.
