Music is a powerful thing. As you’ve read on other posts throughout this blog, many songs remind me of Jenny and our time together. The Show (Just Enjoy the Show) by Lenka is one of them.

During one of our lazy days together we spent an extensive period going through her laptop watching old files including a video her mom made her for her 18th birthday. We also watched a few others, but I’m not sure how allowed I am to mention those. Revealing that Jenny was once 18 is not huge news. If the world knew other things she did (like hip/hop dance) they might see her a lot differently.

The song is incredibly commercialized. I’ve heard it plenty of other places aside from a hotel room with Jenny. What made it so special was that it gave me a deeper glimpse into her life. I saw new pictures of her as a kid. I saw her as a baby, a toddler, a child, a pre-teen, a teen, and all the way up to someone who can legally sign up for military service in the United States at 18. I saw moments from each year of her life. All of it made me fall in love with her even more.

In a week and a half Jenny and I will celebrate three years in a relationship. We’ve been friends for even longer and closer friends for some time in between. Through those nearly three years together we’ve only had a chance to spend three weeks side-by-side. Soon though, we’ll start the clock on a lifetime together of never having to say goodbye again.

Now just enjoy the show even with Lenka’s snaggle tooth and upwards pointing nose getting in the way.
